Have you heard of vegetarianism and wondered what on earth could that be? It is undeniable that there are still a large amount of people whom do not understand the concept and why some people chose to be a vegetarian. Well, over here, I would like to share some ideas from my latest reading.

A Veggie Box

Recently, I came across a book called, “Meat, The Chief Assailant of Human’s Body”. According to the book, some people have thrown wrong concepts towards the issue of vegetarianism and connected it with malnutrition problems. They believe that vegetarians are unable to receive enough nutrients and thus will become weak and inactive.

However, the improvements of science and technology in our modern society nowadays have proven that such concept is wrong and misleading. In fact, I believe that our eating habits play a very important role in the nutrients absorption into our body. It doesn’t matter whether a person is a vegetarian or a non-vegetarian, if one doesn’t keep a balance diet, he or she will definitely become weak and suffer from illnesses.

Tomatoes…yummy!

Have you ever thought about how our intestines work in our body? Well, according to the book, the small and large intestines of human beings and herbivorous animals are both long and the length is about ten to twenty times the length of the body. Therefore, the food that we took requires a longer digestion time. However, if we leave the decaying food for too long in the body, it will become a sort of poison that will poison our blood stream and thus increase the burden of our liver.

The book added that it is not very suitable for human beings to partake meat due to it’s lack of fibers. The residue of the meat that remains too long in the intestine which are much longer will burden our liver and will also encourage the hardening of liver as well as leading to liver cancer.

This is not an effort of intimidation but what stated here is rather true. Animals do have feelings and they too, are able to feel happy, sad, hatred and of course, pain. Try to imagine if a surgeon operates without injecting any anesthetic into the patient’s body, how would the patient feel? Can you imagine the same pain that an animal will go through when they are slaughtered? They are not able to cry out for help. Even though they are crying out, there is no escaping from the butcher’s knife and they can only wait until their last breath. This is indeed extremely torturing. Compare to wild and fierce creatures like crocodiles, tigers, lions, sharks and so on, aren’t we a more cruel and hideous beast?

Last but not least, just something from the book that we should ponder upon.

Vitalize the Divine Love of man,

Ending thus, the Sorrowful Fate of all animal-friends;

Glorifying, spirit through Moral Sense,

Exonerate every trace of evil strand;

To the sublime joy of Universal Truth,

All beings indeed, are brothers too;

Rationally, animals have the Right,

In pertaining their lives within humane sight;

Acquitting them to be brutally slaughtered,

Nevertheless, Commiseration of Mind is thence attained;

Infuriating not against NATURE’S LAW,

Shield man from disasters, pestilences and wars;

MERCY and PERPETUAL PEACE are henceforth sacredly restored!

So, do try to be a vegetarian sometimes, you might just fall in love with it!
