This flower is called Rose Moss. Before we know its name, we called it “small sunflower” (which is not exactly correct) because of it behaviour of only show its beautiful flowers when the sun light is strong enough. The scientific name of Rose Moss is Portulaca xxx. Portulaca is its Type Genus name, where as xxx are different species. There are 40 - 100 species found.
I guess that Portulaca is under Succulent categories, but I have doubted because it is extremely soft. It prefers full sun and require little water. If too much water was given, its root can become rotten easily.

The size of the flower can be as small as 1.5 cm in diameter, therefore unless you look at it very close (like the first picture above), otherwise it look better in a big bush.
We had a few other types of rose moss in different colours, red, pink, white… … but it can be easily killed by the rain, may be I need to take some time to change the soil.
I wish I can have a piece of land where I can plant different colours of rose moss, I can imagine… it will be a beautiful garden.

Follow-up comment rss or Leave a TrackbackI love this flower. I have been searching for a supplier for over 3 years. I just happened to buy it one spring from a local greenhouse but when I went back the next spring with picture in hand they acted like they had never seen that type of flower before. It was a beautiful plant just full of flowers and boomed all summer long with very little care. I hope that I can find another one for this summer. Anyone know a supplier for this plant???
-> hopsue_303, I hope that you can find it again.
