New moon is a lunar phase in a month where the Moon first appear as a crescent.

When I see a crescent shape, I will think of 2 things:-
1.  There is a yellow crescent on our flag (Malaysia Flag) - which represents Islam, the country’s official religion.
2.  My primary and secondary school have Red Crescent Society.
