How do you usually sleep on a flight?  This is what SiewPeng and I always do.

Sometimes, we are not head to head but head to shoulder.   We always put the seat’s handle between us in “up right” position so that we can have more space.

I am sure even after we get very old we will do like the old couple in the picture above.

When my camera is mounted on my tripod, the angle can be rotated is 90 degrees (horizontal - vertical and vice versa).  I rotated while the shutter was released.

I took the picture above with 8 seconds shutter speed.  The first and last 3 seconds are static and in between, it leaves the light trail.  I have not tried “Light in the Night” technique for quite some time.  You can find my previous light painting photos here (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, Q&A).  I told myself to stop posting them until I have something new.  Yes, this is something new that I have just tried.

It looks like my touch light.

The camera was shaken.  How nice if the tripod is programmable and can rotate by itself.

If you look carefully, you will find that the center of rotation (the point that does not move in any rotation) is at one of the corners outside the pictures.  Next time, I will try to rotate it in the middle of the photos itself instead.

There is a cycle for the fountain pool to show different patterns of water dancing.  At that moment, I found 2 big contrasts.  - Static and Dynamic.

The fountain nozzles were stopped, but the surrounding was still moving.  Even their nearest water fountains were still spraying water.  Human, vehicles, birds were moving around, but the nozzles in this pool were as static as the “ground”.

My lung was also static because I hold my breath while I press the shutter button and wait for 8 seconds of shutter time, to prevent the shaking of my camera.

The nozzles were calm, and lined up with the red and orange light shined on their backs.

It was the turn of another pool to shoot the water taller than a human.  5 minutes later, this pool would be active again.

Sometimes, when we let our minds relax and stop thinking,  (it is actually hard to stopped our mind from thinking, because we keep too much unnecessary things in our mind), some great ideas will suddenly appear “automagically”.  And we can think of some solutions / ideas which we have never thought before.  Have you had this experience?

The water fountain needs a break to allow it to serve longer, same as our heart.

One of the pools became my special target as it hasn’t got a light switched on.  I wonder why the person-in-charge do not repair it until now.  It might have bulb burned out / there is a permanent electrical damage.  I hope someone involve in tourism can tell me the reason.

Anyway, the fountain in my photo appear in white, at the same time, the pool appear black / dark.

The background is the famous Kuching Court House.  Look at the picture above carefully, I can’t cropped away the hawker selling things at both sides of the fountain.

Plastic Dragonfly

Recently there are many hawkers selling plastic dragonfly which can be shot into the sky and it drops slowly.  I don’t know what it is called, so I gave it a name called plastic dragonfly.  It come with a tiny blue light.

If there were many people playing it, one of the sellers will announce the party time, where he shout, “Ready, 1, 2, 3!!!”  and everybody with the plastic dragonfly in their hands will release and shoot it into the dark sky near the fountain.  It really looked nice.  This toy not only attract kids, but also adults; it also attract foreign visitors, besides the locals.

The hawkers also sell other things mostly for decorations.

All these photos are taken with 15 seconds (max on my camera), but they were still under exposed.  The lighting is mainly from the square tower next to it where the white light from the building reflect onto the fountain.

I like this pattern because it shows that the water is really dancing in dress.  The dress seems semi transparent.  :P

I will update in the comment section below if I discover that the “musical” fountain has been repair.  You can tell me too if you discover it first.  Now what we can do is to wait. … …  Why not let the visitors donate some money and make all the fountains work properly (all light on + music)?

There is a mini but long waterfall at the border of the fountain pool facing the Square Tower.

The special thing about this fountain is that it produces the sound like a machine in a factory.  The sound of the water flowing can be heard but it seems to be paused at about 0.5 seconds interval.

Every time we walk past the fountains, we can feel a bit of heat.  It might come out from the motor of the fountain.

All the photos above were taken with 8 seconds of exposure time, the water look soft and smooth.

There were crickets hiding inside the mini waterfall and chirping non-stop.  From their point of view, the waterfall seems to be a water curtain for their home.
